About time some one makes a car like this! Never would have guessed Subaru and Toyota!
Although the engine seems a bit short on torque...a 2.5L FA engine anyone? At my altitude a fair bit of power would be lost.

@McFly2015AD Dunno why you keep citing the 3.5-L/V-6 Camry for comparison when it doesn't even have the same number of cylinders as the BRZ or does it appeal to the same market niche.
The 2.5-L / I-4 Camry LE times are in the mid-8-second range, so there goes your Camry-will-walk-away assertion.

@craniumdesigns Actually since it is a mid-mounted Front engine lay out its like the opposite of a midengine rear mount set up. So from there they are somewhat similar but the key that makes this better than a Elise, is that once you lower it just 1' you have THE lowest center of gravity on any production car currently available, including their own LFA and Rx-8, And Porsche. And that my friend for around 20k is cool.

@RingSight91 Looked up on Motortrend the 248hp Camry 0-60 is 5.8s and the BRZ 0-60 is 6.2s. But that 3.5L is rated for 30MPG and the 2.0L BRZ is est at 27MPG right now. So yeah it's going to be no street performer but good for Autocross like the Miata. Subaru has been hinting for awhile that they're going with 2.0L at the biggest in the future which I'm a bit disappointed about, I have a 2.5L Turbo Subaru

@McFly2015AD The Camry is also 227 kg heavier than the BRZ and it has an economy-tuned 6-spd automatic transmission. The fact that it needs a whole 1.5 L extra in the cylinders to get an extra 48 hp over the maybe-2-L BRZ should tell you it's no race winner. And the Camry is only a 2.5 L / 178 hp car if you wanna talk "scale back" and "fuel economy", dude.

@RingSight91 The 3.5L Camry has 248HP, 2.0L BRZ has 200HP I think that camry would walk away from it. There could be a turbo in the future but the fact that it is a 2.0L shows that Subaru is looking to scale back the American spec 2.5L down to the Japanese 2.0L for the WRX/STI also for fuel economy.

@RsBl0gger91 All Japanese sport coupes are gonna look similar lol, but the lfa is very long and sleek. While the brz is compact. The point is that the lfa looks like a super car (cause it is one) and the brz looks like a sports car.

@McFly2015AD Surely you jest in comparing this model's performance with the Camry? Perhaps the Toyota FT-86/Scion FR-S version is what's on your mind. If Subaru follows through with the rumored Turbo version then it's g'bye Camry (and I know what the Camry is good for; I've worked where its transmissions are built).

This car won't be fast, a Camry will keep up with it. The point of it is just to be a driver's car like the Miata. But trust me RWD is fun far more satisfying than an under steering FWD

@RsBl0gger91 This car looks nothing like a LFA, and it isn't that light either. It's about 2700 pounds, which is about the weight of a civic. If you want to see a surprisingly similar car go look at the 2008 bmw z4 hard top.

My friends and i are thinking of creating an electric car. Would it be a good idea to base it off of the chassis for the BRZ or to make our own chasis and all of the mechanical parts?
